Last week a goldeye was caught in lake Athabasca which is downstream from Alberta's tar sands. Information about this fish has been forwarded to Alberta's Regional Aquatics Monitoring Program. the goldeye has two mouths.
The Regional Aquatics Monitoring Program is a joint government-industry group that
monitors the health of rivers and lakes.
The program is composed of Alberta Environment, the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Health Canada and nine corporations involved in the oil sands.
The purpose of the program is to identify and address potential impacts of oil sands development.
Aboriginal communities living downstream of the oil sands have previously expressed their concerns about how industrial development is affecting their drinking water.
