Some Texas teachers are finding interesting ways to make ends meet, which for some could mean taking on a second job. However, for Laurie Ann Lewis, a 38-year-old highschool theater teacher, it meant selling herself.
It is no secret that teachers are one of the lowest paying professional careers, with many simply accepting the years of college and certifications required for their low salaries as part of their love for the profession.
Last week, Laurie Lewis was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor prostitution in Houston, Texas and was released on $500 US dollars bail. If convicted, the
Cleveland ISD highschool Theater Arts teacher can get up to 6 months in prison and a $2,000 US dollar fine.
Just recently,
as reported on Digital Journal, a California high school teacher was arrested for his involvement in an online sex sting involving minors.
Although not even on the same caliber as the California case, it shows that teachers have their own private lives outside of teaching our vulnerable children.
Lewis is scheduled in court tomorrow and is scheduled in class on the 25th of August when Cleveland ISD opens its doors to students for the first day of school. Looks like this teacher may have a little explaining to do.
