Is it a serial cat killer or just some weirdo hurting the animals as a means to gain attention? The reason isn't yet known but another mutilated feline has been found in Corpus Christi, Texas bringing the tally to 13 since April of this year.
In an ongoing case that has residents a little shocked and much speculation as to who is doing the killing, another mutilated cat was found Tuesday in the coastal city of Corpus Christi, Texas. According to a news report by KRIS TV, a bicycle rider happened upon the remains of what used to be a cat:
"The parts that we saw this morning was just the head, right behind the ears and one foreleg from the shoulder down," Veterinarian Tom House with Animal Care Services said.
The location of the rest of the body was unknown.
This is the sixth cat to be discovered mutilated in the same manner over the past two months, all with clean straight-edge cuts ruling out animal attacks. House did opine the cuts were made by a weapon such as a knife or axe and that they may have some connection with a "ritual mutilation", although their is no conclusive evidence of this. A local satanic blog has attacked the insinuation made from an earlier news report that suggested the cat mutilations were related to any type of ritualism associated with satanism.
In some cases, the animals had been disemboweled or dismembered and left on the properties of local residents and business owners.
With the latest mutilation in the recent spike of cat killings, residents in the local area have been warned to keep their pets indoors, especially with the upcoming Halloween season. Officials say that since the cat disappearances and mutilations began back in 2006, they have noticed an increase in the number of incidences during the months of September and October.
A recent Crime Stoppers report offered a reward for information about the mutilations, earning tipsters up to a potential $1,000 US dollars.
A news report in the New York Times dated back to 1989 details just how common the ritualistic dismemberment of the cats really is. The pets are captured, killed with the same surgical precision and then their body parts are returned or left on the lawns of the owners. Still, even the conclusion in that story was that despite their being conflicting evidence, no one knew who was killing the beloved pets.
Until then, hopefully residents will heed the warnings and keep their valued pets inside while officials continue their search for the cat killer or killers.
