Today, new 3D medical visualizing software was released, which promises to revolutionize the speed and effectiveness of radiology. FiatLux Imaging uses some of the technology found in video games to let doctors access and analyze results from anywhere.
The development company from Redmond, Washington was founded by three veteran Microsoft employees, two of which worked in the video game development sector. They decided to use their knowledge to create a 3D medical visualization tool, which runs using DirectX, a mainstream graphics platform made by Microsoft. This allows the software to run on most PCs and PDAs, giving drastically more freedom to doctors.
FiatLux Visualize is also much more accessible due to its low cost. With an asking price of about $2,800 USD, it is considerably cheaper than traditional software, which cost over $100,000 with the viewing equipment.
The company is currently working on developing PDA and cellphone versions of the medical viewer.
