Four people are dead after a shooting at a gelato cafe in Germany. At least four assailants opened fire last night, killing one woman and three men. A manhunt is still underway and police are not ruling out possible links to organized crime.
In a brutal attack for a reason still unknown, three men and one woman were murdered in an ice cream parlor just outside of Frankfurt, Germany in the town of Ruesselsheim. According to the
Washinton Post, it was said that at least four attackers might have used both guns and knives to kill the four parlor patrons.
Gunmen begin shooting around 8 pm German time on Tuesday night at the Eis de Rocco cafe where police say one man was killed outside of the cafe, a man and a woman were killed inside the cafe and one died on his way to the hospital.
In a report from
thisislondon.co.uk, police are saying that the woman was simply an innocent bystander who "wandered into the line of fire." The gunmen were apparently targeting the men. Also according to the report, one of the shooters was reported to have said:
'OK scum - this is where you get your’s' as he opened fire.
Nearly a year ago, six died in a shooting in Duisburg, Germany near Frankfurt. Seven were arrested in conjunction to the organized crime spree killings. It is unclear if there is any link to yesterday's murders and organized crime.
A manhunt is still underway to find the attackers. Police used dogs and helicopters to search a cordoned off area in the town centre which is located just under 20 miles south of Frankfurt.
[UPDATE] August 13, 2008: Two men have been arrested in conjunction with the shooting, according to a
Spiegel news article. The report claims that the shooting may have been the result of some sort of ongoing feud that had spilled over from a weekend fight between nine or so individuals.
Four men allegedly walked into the cafe and started some kind of argument with a group of men sitting in the cafe, which led to a scuffle and the shooting.
Earlier reports stated that four had died in the shooting, although this particular report claims there were three killed: two men and one woman.
The woman was an innocent bystander who happened to be in the cafe sipping cappuccino with her son's mother-in-law. Anna K., the 55-year-old mother of two older boys, witnessed the argument and tried to run from the cafe once the shooting started but one of the shooter's targets ran into her and she was shot in the stomach. Her husband who was next door at a Greek restaurant, heard the shots and than saw his wife lying on the ground.
He was able to get to her before she whispered her last words "Please help me Kosta!" She died in her husband's arms.
