Ever wonder if the officer writing that ticket has a criminal record? Officer James M. Fraser of Citrus Heights, California apparently saw himself as above the law when his illegal actions set off a high speed police chase. Fraser has since been fired.
Cruising the streets on his motorcycle during off-duty time took on a whole new meaning for the 27-year-old police officer this past Saturday when Folsom police tried to stop James Fraser around 2 in the morning for allegedly speeding and a traffic light violation, according to a
Citrus Heights News report.
For some reason, Fraser did not stop for the officers and instead, gave chase for some half an hour on a 40 mile pursuit at speeds of over 100 mph. Michelle Beattie of the Folsom Police Department stated that Fraser lost control of his motorcycle twice during the pursuit and allegedly ran over a police officers foot:
...ignoring police orders, he got back on his motorcycle, and drove into officers, she said, colliding with a police vehicle and running over an officer's foot.
Fraser was arrested and was booked on charges of suspicion of felony evasion of a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. He was released from jail on $100,000 US dollars bail.
An article in
newsblaze.com explained that the motorcyclist was unidentifed as an officer of the law at the time of the pursuit and it was only reported at the time of his booking that he was a police officer.
Officer Fraser had been with the Citrus Heights Police Department for 8 months, although the report did say he had worked at a law enforcement agency prior to his employment at Citrus Heights. He was fired for his actions this past Saturday. Drug and alcohol lab results are pending.
Makes one wonder about the term law enforcement...
