The 2008 Beijing Olympics started on August 8, 2008 at 8:00 pm and two babies were born on the same day at 8:08 am and weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces in two neighboring states in the U.S.
It is all eights in Iowa and Minnesota for two parents. Hailey Jo Hauer and Xander Jace Riniker were born at 8:08 am on 8/8/08, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces at Lake Region Hospital in Minnesota and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa respectively.

Baby Xander (who already has enough eights to his name) is also the eighth grandchild for his mother’s parents. His brother, 2-year-old Kael also had an unusual birthday; he was born on 4/5/06 (the first number corresponds to the month and the second number the day of the month in the United States).

Lindsey Hauer, the mother of Hailey Jo Hauer, thought the nurse was joking when they gave her daughter’s birth details.

Though the number eight is considered a lucky number in China (the number 8 in Chinese sounds like "prosperity" or "wealth"), it is not considered lucky in other countries; Xander’s father Chad Riniker, who plays the lottery occasionally, said eight hasn’t been a lucky number for him but he may start using the number from now on.

He told AP:
“I just might…If nothing else, with four children I should probably play the lottery.”
