Comedian Stephen Colbert gets his wish fulfilled again: he wanted a spider named after him. A Californian researcher named a newly discovered spider after Colbert recently.
Dr. Jason Bond named a spider after Canadian rocker Neil Young few months ago. Comedy Central TV host Stephen Colbert got upset with Bond’s decision and questioned him for naming an American spider after a Canadian and wanted instead the spider to be named after him or other fellow Americans.
Bond, who specializes in spiders and millipedes
fulfilled Colbert’s wish by naming a newly discovered trapdoor spider species after the comedian’s name as “Apstostichus stephencolberti”. Just like Colbert has the silent letter “t” in the end ,the new spider species also has the silent letter “t” in its name.
The spider species were found along the coast of California last year.
Even the president of the country doesn’t have so many things named after him. Colbert has an
ice cream variety from Ben & Jerry’s named after him, and also a baby eagle that flew across North America. In a Canadian minor league team, the mascot is named after Colbert.
