When the economy hits hard, everyone is affected, including our furry friends. Just ask the recent victim of foreclosure, a 44-pound feline called "Princess Chunk".
WNBC.com Reports - It turns out that us humans aren't the only ones affected by the slouching economy, as a recent home foreclosure left one 44-pound feline roaming the streets.
This furry friend has become quite the media sensation since being picked up wandering the streets by a New Jersey animal shelter. The 44-pound kitty, now being called "Princess Chunk" (later found to be a boy) was a victim of foreclosure says owner. The woman said that after recently losing her home, she could no longer afford to keep her overweight friend and was forced to turn him loose.
The 10-year-old kitty, actually named Powder, is now being cared for by the Camden County Animal Shelter. Since "Princess Chunks" recent media extravaganza, national news and Live with Regis and Kelly, hundreds of people have called in to adopt the "fluffy" feline, with the shelter director reporting up to 15 calls an hour.
"The largest tabby on record weighed 46 pounds, 15 ounces. That cat, who lived in Australia, died in the 1980s. The Guinness World Records has since dropped the category, fearing cat owners might harm their animals in an attempt to break the record." reports WNBC.
Powder is scheduled to appear on Good Morning America, Friday, and will be meeting the public at the shelters adopt-a-thon Aug. 17th.
