According to the conclusive reports of an internal audit of the Justice Department, it has been revealed that two top aids to then Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez discriminated against applicants for not being either Republicans and/or conservatives.
It was back in late June in which a new audit had found that those that applied for jobs at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) were discriminated against for either being Liberal and/or Democrat. The report of the audit came on June 24 of this year. So far, this audit could be something that could provide ammunition for the Democrats to use against the Republicans this year since elections are in November.

Perhaps this will become a hot topic in the general US Presidential election race between presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and presumed Republican nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona.

In a nutshell, the audit had found that the DOJ discriminated against those that learned towards the left on the political spectrum. Instead, those that had leaned towards the right and/or have ties with the GOP would be hired instead. Such screenings took a huge spike around 2006. Coincidentally, it was the same year that the Democrats barely won both houses of Congress.

Today, it was revealed that two top aides of then Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez broke policies and civil-service laws. The aids were Monica Gooding and Kyle Sampson. However, it was Gooding that was singled out for violation of police and laws.

The audit reports that Gooding and Kyle employed a political and ideological litmus test as part of the hiring process for those applying for positions within the DOJ. But the two had left last year in the controversy of Gonzalez and the firing of the US Attorneys. But, it is unknown if Gooding and Sampson will end up getting charged for such violations.

However, this cannot be used as ammo against Gonzalez.

The audit reveals that Gonzalez had no idea what was going on at the time. But, he was fast to keep it from happening again once he found out.

Gooding did give the details in congressional hearings back in 2007. However, she was given congressional immunity.

When the audit began, it was revealed that many qualified applicants were passed over in favor of less-qualified applicants because of ideological and political views. Today, it is revealed that Gooding passed over an applicant who made a career out of prosecuting terrorists. The main reason for getting passed over was that the applicant’s wife was active in local Democratic politics.

But, he was not the only applicant passed over.

In short, the cat is out of the bag. We can possibly expect this to be making waves in this year’s elections. Perhaps this is not the last we have heard of the internal DOJ audit.

We can expect this to be used as ammo against the GOP.
