With the Beijing games just two weeks away, Chinese officials are confident of winning the prestigious first gold medal of the Olympics.
A fortune telling show in Hong Kong TV has predicted China to win the first gold medal in the Beijing games. But ' Chinadaily ' reports that there are sufficient reasons to believe that the host country will win the first gold in Beijing. According to the newspaper, Chinese officials will schedule the events in such a way that China wins the first gold medal
The first event in the Olympics where winners will be decided is Women's 10m shooting. China certainly hopes to win a medal in the event with Athens Olympics gold medalist shooter Du Li and world champion Zhao Yinghu participating in the event. If everything goes according to plan, China will win the first gold medal in Beijing at 10:50 am on Aug 9.
But if both of them fail to enter the finals in the shooting event, officials have an alternate plan as well.
The next event where winners will be decided is the woman's 48kg weightlifting final at 11:30 am on the same day. China believes it has a 100 percent chance winning a gold in weightlifting. If the shooters fail to reach the finals, the shooting finals will be conducted after 11:30 am.
An unnamed Chinese official said the rumour was baseless.
If you look at the schedule, both events have a chance. When we composed the schedule, we did consider which event would award the first gold medal. But we didn't designate any specific event to be the first.
