A study conducted recently by an Internet security firm Sophos has found out that Google's blogging platform blogspot.com hosts more than two percent of World's malware.
Google's blogging platform blogger holds the number one position in hosting the largest number of blogs. A recent study states that more than two percent of the malware in the Internet is spread by blogger making it to the top in spreading malware also. Sophos, a security vendor which makes antivirus software had conducted the study for the first half of 2008.
Sophos security researcher Paul Ducklin said in the report
With Google there is so much space in there... but it is surprising — two percent is enormous. The attraction for the bad guys in targeting Blogger is that things pretty much get spidered instantly into Google, because Blogger is part of Google.
The report shows that the time has come for Google to clean up it's own house. The most common form of attack is SQL injection by which a malicious code is inserted into the database running a website. According to Sophos, a new website is affected by malware every five seconds. Also, U S has come to the top in the list of malware hosting countries replacing China which held the first position in 2007.
A spokesperson from Google reacting to the report said.
Google takes the security of our users very seriously and we work hard to protect them from malware. Using Blogger, or any Google product, to serve or host malware is a violation of our product policies. We actively work to detect and remove sites that serve malware from our network.
