A man shot three people at South Mountain Community College Thursday. Two of the wounded are in critical condition. A suspect is now in police custody.
The
shooting was not a random murder spree. It is believed that it was gang related and part of a running dispute between the gunman and one of the victims.
In hospital are a 25-year-old male and 22-year-old female in critical condition. A 17-year-old male is also in hospital in stable condition.
It is believed that two of the victims were caught in the crossfire of a gang dispute. It is not known if the suspect was a student. The computer lab where the shooting took place is open to the community.
At the time of the shooting there were up to 300 people on the campus. The computer room had 20 to 30 people inside.
The campus was closed down after the shooting. Friday was a planned holiday so no students should be on campus tomorrow.
South Mountain Community College has more than 8,000 students. Based in Phoenix the college deals with associate degrees and certificates of completion.
