On Good Morning America, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said he is worried about the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border. A quick geography lesson shows no such border exists.
Diane Sawyer, host of Good Morning America on ABC, asked McCain whether the situation in Afghanistan in precarious and urgent. McCain seemed to confuse Iraq and Afghanistan in his response.
McCain said the
following on the show:
I think it's serious. . . . It's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border.
He should know that Afghanistan borders Pakistan not Iraq. Iraq is about
1,500 miles away from Pakistan.
CBS News said this is not the only error McCain has made and cite
several misquotes.
Recently, McCain called the Czech Republic
Czechoslovakia, a region which was disbanded into two countries (the Czech Republic and Slovakia) in 1993. He was also
confused Iran and Al Qaeda's relationship, as both are sworn enemies.
Hopefully the McCain campaign will give him geography lessons before the elections.
