While hiding for about thirteen years, former Serb leader of Bosnia, Dr. Radovan Karadzic, spent his remaining years before capture as a popular alternative healer.
With the events that have transpired during and after the arrest of Bosnia Serb leader, Dr.
Radovan Karadzic has been apprehended. After thirteen years of hiding and evading capture, Karadzic’s luck has run out. But, it is quite interesting to learn about the alias that Karadzic was using during the time.
It’s not everyday that you find out that a well-respected alternative healer is in reality a war criminal that has been on the run for over ten years. To make things more interesting, Karadzic was practicing alternative medicine in Belgrade. But the main point is that Karadzic is in custody. Right now, he is trying to appeal against the charges against him. One such charge is genocide that was allegedly carried out on Karadzic’s orders.
But, not many could have figured out that Karadzic ended up becoming Dr. Dragon David Dabic, a well-liked alternative healer. Interestingly enough, as Dabic, Karadzic was practicing alternative-healing in a suburb of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Having a friend check the distance between Bosnia and Serbia, is at least 150 miles. For thirteen years, Karadzic was hiding underneath their noses for that time.
Now that Karadzic has been revealed, it should not be surprising that many will be doing a spit take right now. It’s not everyday that a well-liked alternative healer is revealed to be a war criminal in hiding. However, he could not have gone into hiding by himself. He did help.

Karadzic had the perfect guise. Plus, he had protection from sympathizers. And he lived in a part of Belgrade with nationalistic influence. Put these factors together, Karadzic vanished off the radar.
Still, he is due to stand trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague in the near future.
It was not long ago that Stojan Zupljanin, another Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect was apprehended. With Karadzic in custody, all that is left is to capture General Ratko Mladic, Karadzic’s commander. When one examines the time gap between the arrests of Zupljanin and Karadzic, perhaps Mladic could get captured in a matter of weeks or months.
But the overall point is that Karadzic, one of the most wanted war criminals in the world, was a blip that went off the radar for 13 years. Despite being under the noses of the authorities, Karadzic had support, a convincing disguise, and a convincing personality.
At the end, there is one question to be answered: How many people are doing a spit take?
