Just when you thought the era of the muscle car was over, General Motors unveils 2010 Camaro which will be built in Canada.
Gas prices may be hitting record highs and job losses in the auto manufacturing sector mounting but GM pushes on. The company has revealed its plans to build the Chevrolet Camaro 2010 in Canada.

This can be billed as The Return of the Camaro as the muscle car was retired in 2002.

The car will be put together in Oshawa, Ontario and is reputed to get nine litres per 100 kilometers so buyers will surely be lining up. Look for it in showrooms near you, next year.

The eager buyer will have several options: Camaro with V-6, 3.6-litre engines in its LS and LT models, along with V-8-powered, 6.2-litre engines in its SS model.

GM is tagging this vehicle as the "fun, efficient sports car for the 21st century," and hopes the new Camaro will appeal to enthusiasts and younger buyers.

Is GM onto something or are they driving off the deep end?

wow. GM is really reaching for sales with this. I don't think gas prices will scare away a potential buyer for this car but it's surprising that GM is struggling for sales and this is their answer to boost numbers.

A sad thing for retired salaried employees of GM is they will be losing their health insurance soon. GM will be giving them $300 toward their finding and paying for their own supplemental insurance.

A friend of mine who has several health problems will lose her insurance in January.

We are getting a new car in 2010 to the local GM plant here in Ohio. I forget what it is called though...

GM will sell a few but this move seems like it is going in the wrong direction.

    $300.00 does not buy much.

It's a PR stunt to get their name in the press. Works, I bet.

If they have the right product/model mix in their lineup they can get away with it. Porsche, Ferrari...and a host of others still manufacture gas guzzlers.

Definately a nice looking motor. But, as with most American muscle cars, I always have to ask what sort of suspension does the thing have ?

Its like with Mustangs and Corvettes, they are beautiful to look at, hugely powerful ... but historically have had the suspension in the back from a 1950's tractor ...

In which case, they dont go around corners very well. Not in the way a Citroen goes through the bends ie on its doorhandles. These just fall off.

I just dont get why the manufacturers dont put all round independent suspension on the things, apart from cost of course. Maybe they build them 'down to a price' ...

Lets hope it has trick suspension as well as the trick looks, and then maybe I'll think about chopping in the RX8 for one.

A PR stunt that might, and should, backfire. With today's concern about environment and oil depletion, such vehicles, as is the Hummer, are seen by many as anti-social machines

If the goal of the stunt is to make the press, it is already working.

True, but there can be positive and negative press. Compare, Muscle cars back in production with, GM Volt for 2010 delivery at under $15,000 or, GM pressures auto insurers to institute transferable policies or, GM's EV can surpass the needs of 80 per cent who commute

Well, of these four, the first is accurate, but one may dream.

Ive heard that this new Camaro is based on the running gear from what we know over here in the UK as the Vauxhall VXR8, or in Oz as the Holden Commodore R8. I think 'some' call them Monaros. Anyway, the good news is that it will have the same all round independent suspension, so it will be a peach ! Maybe thats a bad description, it should probably be regarded as a complete 'thug' ;-)
Where do I sign up for one ?!
