Have you ever wondered if that creepy neighbor down the road has a criminal record? Have you caught someone looking at your house or your children and wanted to know if there was a sexual predator in the area? Now there are websites that can assist.
There has been much controversy about criminals and the right to privacy, questions that still have not been answered in a court of law. These questions began to be raised when websites for showing the locations of accused sexual predators, usually where they live and work, were established for people to view.
Now a new website has been formed and driven controversy. The website is aimed at providing people and neighborhood watches with information on people with criminal records in their immediate area It can also be used to look up people across the United States to see if they have been bad boys or bad girls. Certainly this will make he naughty/nice list a bit easier for Santa this year.
The website is criminalsearches.com and provides services which include criminal background checks, maps of the local area being searched with sexual predators and criminals homes pegged, even crime statistics for an area. It also provides names, sometimes pictures, and a list of crimes committed by the individuals displayed on the map. Criminalsearches.com was founded by the stalkers number one helper, peoplefinders.com.
Advocates for criminal rights have been wary of the new website stating that in the hands of the wrong people, convicted peoples in the area are subject to harassment, discrimination, and possible danger. Advocates for victims rights have acknowledged the concerns but feel the information is too valuable for the proactive safety of the community to be hidden from the public for fears of a few reactionaries.
No matter what the argument for or against the website, certainly being provided with the locations of criminals can help a family be more aware and safer in their neighborhood, forewarned is forearmed. It is hoped, however, that the arms taken up are knowledge instead of tools of harassment.

Hey guys, has anyone looked up my Criminal record yet? lol I know I looked up a few of my family members... man the things you find out that they don't tell you! *shit eating grin*
-
Very useful info Sam :)
I'm a little more than a little tired of criminal rights advocates. Anyone could get this info before if they visited their local court-house and records search department. Centralizing all the various services isn't any more or less potentially harmful to convicted criminals. These advocates tend to forget that any unsealed court decision is a matter of public record in any case.

But about few miles away there seems to be quite a bit of them. I will bookmark this site for later reference.

Hubby looked up the neighborhood last night and down the road we have someone who has been convicted of 1st degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. It just makes you feel good to know who your neighbors are huh...
-
It is all rather frightening really. I mean, we want to know - but do we?
I do. There were 2 child sex offenders on my street - now 1 thanks to the diligent efforts of our neighborhood.,,,,LOL. I'll leave it at that. :o)
Criminal rights? Hey, DUI doesn't affect me unless the repeat offender freqents the local bar. But a child molester? you bet!
Convicted murder? Well, that raises an eyebrow, doesn't it sam? ACK. Involuntary manslaughter, not so much but 1st degree murder????? ewwwwwwwwww. Lets hope it was like killing a child molester or something noble.

Nikki I doubt it is something noble. The cost of living in my area is extremely low. Because of that we have actually been getting alot of criminals moving in after they get out of jail. They research my area on the internet while in jail and then move here. People are being badly affected by it, seeling thier homes, going into foreclosure because of the property value dropping, higher crime rates, violent dogs, you name it.

That's sad, Samantha...but I know it does happen. I checked and the closest "known" offender lives about 8-10 miles from us.

LOL, our map was like every other house. Youngstown, Ohio, we have more murders per capita than anyone! Yaaayyy, lol. Seriously, this town isn't as bad as the rest of the country thinks, just don't flash gang signs...

Do you have a prison near you in Youngstown? I'm curious because I have a friend that was there not too long ago while he was in Federal custody.

Yes we do have a prison in Youngstown. Maximum security.
Deb you really shouldn't be hanging around people like that! =)

Just safe to avoid the projects altogether. Downtown is pretty safe, well patroled. The campus is pretty safe too, they brag being one of the safest in the country.

Actually, the person I was talking about is tied to my son's case...he is the witness that I've been working with to bring to light the real facts in my son's case...that it was a murder for hire, and that the D.A. had this information and could have stopped the murder from happening.

The street behind where I live is a man who was convicted of possession of child sexually abusive material.
At the opposite end of my street where I live is a man who has been convicted twice of criminal sexual conduct 1st degree [weapon used].
My street is about a mile long so he isn't a neighbor.

Thankfully for you, Cynthia. Where we lived before, we had a couple that were in a couple of miles, and that always worried me that they come driving by...

Dang, I hope all goes well with that.

I do too, Samantha. It's still going to take time, as in a couple more years...at least. I hate how the system drags its feet...but what can we do, ya know? Right now, his case is headed to Appeals, so we'll see what happens there. That might happen in August or September, I do believe.
