A report doing the rounds says that Tom Cruise is keen to reprise his role as 'Maverick' in a proposed sequel to the smash hit 'Top Gun'.
Would it be too much of a good thing? The grapevine is abuzz with reports that Tom Cruise may just don those fighter jackets and the emblematic 'Aviator' glasses again for a sequel to 1986 mega smash 'Top Gun'. Maverick could come back to reprise a role which made him the heartthrob of the world, but 22 years down the line the surefire cockiness could be replaced by a more mature approach.

The idea of the role is apparently to bring him back to the elite US Flying School as an instructor to a fresh batch of trainees. And now,he will be dealing with a female cocky trainee pilot. Probably an echo of the role he himself played in the first movie. The last film ended with him returning to the school as an instructor. A Hollywood insider said,

" The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor – and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot."

The original film sent pulses racing for some of us and some to the nearest sunglass stores. Twenty two years down the line, hopefully the blast would be just as good.

Its raining sequels in Hollywood. Sequels is one of the easiest ways to make some more money. Especially, the second installment generates a lot of interest.

Now it is more global, just a week can generate millions for them and after that it is just profits. Hollywood is raking lots of money. Regarding Top Gun it was a good movie, but the new Cruise, as long he keeps his mouth shut and stop talking about Scientology it might work.

Yup, I have always wondered why celebs can't keep their religious or political viewpoints to themselves. With Cruise, he sometimes seems to go overboard with his Scientology thing.

You don't seem to be a fan of Tom Cruise, Chris? I was a huge fan of the first movie...lets see what the second one brings.

I used to like him, but lately his antics are irritating. He used to act well before and used to chose roles well.

I also used to like Cruise, but after all the hullabaloo over his affiliation with Scientology...my opinion has changed. He seems so self-absorbed it's not funny.

Debra, its a common human trait. He thinks himself to be the torchbearer for the scientology cause, and I guess that fuels his ego and self absorption. Rumor has it that this was the principal cause of divorce from Nicole Kidman. And didn't he have Katie Holmes convert to it too!
