Pet dog saves woman from kangaroo

By Chris V. Thangham     Jul 19, 2008 in World
An Australian woman was attacked by a large kangaroo, but luckily her pet dog fought off the kangaroo. She had minor cuts to her face, hands and legs.
Rosemary Neal, 65, was at her farm near Mudgee in New South Wales, 265 km (160 miles) northwest of Sydney, when she was attacked by a large kangaroo, according to her son Darren.
The kangaroo jumped up and attacked her. After Neal screamed for help, her pet dog came rushing towards Neal and chased the kangaroo away. Her son told BBC that if the dog was not present, his mom would have been dead.
Mrs. Neal was taken to the hospital. She had a concussion and some cuts to her face, hands and back.
Not all kangaroo species are considered aggressive; only a few of them attack humans, like this case. Because of limited land for forage and prevailing drought in parts of Australia, the kangaroos invade farmed areas for food.
The dog deserves a big bone from the owner, if not a steak.
