Two weeks ago the largest coffee chain in the universe announced that it would begin closing stores. Today the official list was made public. Is your Vente Americana in danger?
Starbucks, the world's largest coffee store chain, has
finally released the complete listing of which 600 stores they will close by 2009. Two weeks ago they announced their downsizing plan, attributing it to the economic slide and consumers purchasing less non-essentials.
California takes the largest hit of store closures, with close to 90 that will no longer be serving Frappuccinos and other such products. In addition to store closings, Starbucks announced that they will no longer serve breakfast sandwiches.
Despite the announcement, Starbucks also stated that they will continue to update a list of confirmed store closures, alluding to the fact that their list of 600 are tentative. The press release reads:
This list is based on currently available operating, financial and competitive information. Actual store closures may differ depending on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, risks related to finalization of third party agreements, expected costs savings, income tax and other benefits associated with the store closures in the anticipated time frame, if at all. Starbucks undertakes no obligation to notify third parties of such changes.
