article imageMan finds a 7-inch knife in foot-long Subway sandwich

A New York man filed a lawsuit against the restaurant Subway for serving him a sandwich containing a 7-inch blade. Luckily, he saw the blade before he took a bite of the sandwich.
This incident looks similar to the KFC story by Vinay Chand earlier today.

John Agnesini, 26, is a magazine designer and resides in New York. He bought a foot-long Subway sandwich in late June and he took the first few bites without any problems. But then he spotted a knife protruding out of the bread’s crust.

Agnesini told Reuters:
If I didn't look at it, I don't know what would have happened…That's the last thing you think about a sandwich you eat all the time.

His colleague called the Subway restaurant company to complain about this but they didn’t offer any apologies. So Agnesini filed a lawsuit in Manhattan state court and is seeking $1 million in damages.

Subway spokesman Kevin Kane responded today with the below statement:
At Subway restaurants, we take food safety and customer comments very seriously. We are aware of the complaint made and are investigating the facts alleged. As a pending legal matter, we cannot discuss this matter further.

Yetta Kurland, Agnesini’s lawyer said they are filing this case on health grounds and are also investigating to see whether it was an intentional or malicious act.

Most likely it must have been the cook or an employee must have accidentally dropped the knife in the dough machine they use to bake bread. But I seriously doubt that Subway will want to do this deliberately, they are not dumb enough to seriously hurt their business.

The bread is not thick, I don't know how anyone could have missed this. Even if they had dropped in the machine, they could have heard the metal sounds. I hope it is not a made up story.

Me too, but of all the things to falsely claim to find, a knife? It is so unbelievable it almost has to be true..lol

I don't hink this was deliberate either...but then again...sometimes you just never know.

I have gotten Subway sandwiches and I don't see how this could happen.

The bread is not all that thick and it is cut while you are watching them. It is filled with what you tell them as you go along the line still watching what they are doing.

There is never anytime when the sandwich is out of your sight.

How in the heck can you get a 7-inch knife stuck in a 12-inch sub that is always cut in half (ie, somewhere around the six in mark!).

    I guess I'm a skeptic here....so this dude didn't complain immediately?

Subway preps the sandwiches RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMER....hello. So, if the sub was rolled up and the blade jutted out, wouldn't the protruding blade cut through the tightly wrapped paper AND plastic bag tube they slide the damn thing into?

It has an odd ring to it....Subway, huh.

The only plausible reason is that the cook dropped it in the dough...I wonder how the suit charges are calculated. $1 mill!!!

That seems almost impossible. When the loaf of bread is cut it would seem a knife would be discovered.

If it was a seven inch blade, what about the handle?
Since I have never purchased a 12 inch sub I don't know if they are cut in half or not.

That is more what my thoughts are. It seems not very probable that it could happen with the way Subway prepares a sub for you.
