It isn't unusual to see former professional athletes try other sports or physical challenges to make money once their careers are done. This one showcased ex baseball player Jose Canseco losing to former NFL player Vai Sikahema in a boxing match.
Jose Canseco's boxing debut was inspired, short lived, and a knockout. Canseco, self-confessed former steroid user-turned-whistleblower, debuted his boxing skills versus Vai Sikahema and was
knocked out in 97 seconds. Sikahema stands 5-foot-9-inches, 205 pounds versus Canseco, towering at 6-foot-4-inches, 247.
"Don't ever think that your size is going to matter because in Philadelphia, we will chop you down,"said Sikahema.
It turns out that Sikahema's experience was the final blow in the bout. Sikahema, a former kickoff return man for the Philadelphia Eagles, was a golden gloves boxer with 80 fights under his belt before joining the NFL. Canseco claimed to have had a background in martial arts.
Sikahema won $25,000 in the fight. He gave $5,000 to the family of a Philadelphia cop that was killed in the line of duty last week.
"Canseco's fighting for the money, but I'm fighting for a cause," noted the compassionate scrapper. "In boxing, that means something."
But that wasn't the inspiring portion of the fight. Afterwards several people reportedly wanted a shot at Canseco, a man who made many enemies by writing a book detailing whom he believed used steroids in Major League Baseball. Representatives for former boxing champs Ray Mercer and Bobby Czyz are trying to line up fights with Canseco.
I wonder if any other home run bashers will take a shot at the bash brother?
