Apple said in a press release that it sold its one millionth iPhone 3G on Sunday, on just the third day of launch. More than 62 per cent of iPhone 3G buyers are first-time iPhone owners.
Apple launched its iPhone 3G last Friday and in just three days it has sold one million units worldwide.

The new iPhone 3G is now available in 21 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the U.S.

France will have its iPhone 3G on July 17 and the other countries will have them available soon after. And once they are available in China, India and South American countries, sales may even double.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO said in the press release:
iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend...It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.

Many customers surveyed by Munster said they switched to iPhone 3G because of its slew of new built-in features. Also, a large amount of PC owners are buying the iPhone 3G. More than 62 per cent of the new buyers are first time iPhone owners.

The new phone has 3G networking, twice as fast as the EDGE network. It also has Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to satisfy the business users, and with the iPhone 2.0 software, the iPhone 3G owners have more than 800 applications to download from the App Store.

It is no wonder many new owners of iPhone 3G had problems activating during the past few days.
