Terrence Kiel, former safety for the San Diego Chargers died in a car crash yesterday authorities say. He was just 27.
Kiel was driving home from a party last night after 10:15p.m. when his 2004 Chevrolet sedan crashed into a wall in the Scripps Ranch area. He was barely breathing when the paramedics arrived at the scene and was pronounced dead at 11:28p.m.
Authorities said a female witness saw Kiel driving in the wrong direction before he lost control of his vehicle.
Toxicology tests will be performed to determine whether Kiel, who had a history of legal trouble, had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A 2003 second-round draft selection, Kiel appeared in 59 games over parts of four seasons with the Chargers.
He has had run-ins with the law prior and was released from the Chargers in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to felony and misdemeanor drug charges. He was also charged for public urination but that charge was later dropped.
