French President Nicholas Sarkozy could be deemed a maverick leader as he lashed out at just about everybody only a matter of days that France has taken the leadership of the EU.
French President Nicholas Sarkozy has taken on the European Union (EU) Presidency just recently. It is safe to say that the EU presidency under Sarkozy will become quite interesting in the future. So far, Sarkozy’s recent lashings have brought him in hot water with three groups: the French military, the French state television, and the European Commission. In a nutshell, Sarkozy’s definitely will not be making any friends while being president of the EU.

Sarkozy may have made an enemy of Peter Mandelson, the Trade Commissioner of Britain, in the last few days. It seems that Sarkozy and Mandelson have been brawling with each other since France has taken control of the EU’s rotating presidency.

Mandelson is not the only fight Sarkozy needs to worry about. He has the military to worry about as well. Sarkozy had lashed out at then Army Chief Bruno Cuche. Cuche resigned from his position shortly afterwards. In short, the French military is not warm to Sarkozy as the President.

Sarkozy had attacked the chief of one of his own TV channels. Patrick de Carolis, the chief of the state TV network was not pleased. This could be deemed an unintelligent move on Sarkozy’s part.

Yup, Sarkozy is definitely not winning any brownie points. In short, Sarkozy’s rubbing just about everybody in Europe the wrong way. This is not good for relations between France and Britain. Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown have been working to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Not only has Sarkozy angered the French military, France Televisons, and possibly Britain, he has seemed to have angered Ireland as well. The issue of Ireland is due to its rejection of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty back in June. Sarkozy said he will make them vote on it. He is definitely alienating one group after another.

In a nutshell, Sarkozy is not making any friends within the EU. Sarkozy can definitely be the “maverick” of the EU. Regardless, Sarkozy has proven to be entertaining. And boy, Sarkozy does not hold back when speaking his mind.

In the original article by the Times, Sarkozy has the most interesting spats. While interesting, Sarkozy’s going to tick off a lot of people. Then again, it is refreshing that Sarkozy is speaking his mind.

Overall, you insult Sarkozy, he’ll insult you right back. It does not matter who you are.

The EU will definitely be treated to an entertaining time with Sarkozy as the president.

While Sarkozy is the current leader, the EU assemblies and meetings should be televised; on a personal note of course. That could possibly generate very high ratings. While Sarkozy is not scoring points, he is not afraid to speak his mind on various matters.
