Why Firefox 3 is awesome?

As expected, Mozilla achieved a new Guinness World Record, as Web users downloaded its Firefox 3 a record eight million times in just 24 hours.
Mozilla initially tried to hit the 5-million download mark for its new browser version, Firefox 3, but it was downloaded a record 8,002,530 times on June 17.

Mozilla announced this news as follows:

The Firefox community is the proud new owner of a Guinness World Record — each and every one of you! Mozilla today received confirmation from Guinness World Records that we've officially achieved the record for the "largest number of software downloads in 24 hours." From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3!

Computerworld.com reports that Firefox has reached a 19 per cent share of the internet browser market in June, mostly thanks to this record download of Firefox 3. Internet Explorer still leads by a record 73 per cent mostly due to the fact Microsoft pre-installs its IE browser in operating systems like XP or Vista. Safari and Opera also saw increased market share in June, as Safari has 6.3 per cent and Opera has 0.7 per cent of the browser market.

If you downloaded Firefox 3 on June, you can get a personalized certificate like the one below:

So far, Firefox 3 is working great for me and most of the extensions like FoxClocks, Del.ici.ous, Google Toolbar, Stumble, IE Tab, Remember the Milk, PicLens and HyperWords all work with the new browser.

If you haven’t downloaded it, you can download it at this link and get a better, safer and smarter browsing experience.

I was one of them and now I am using it...and of course loving it! Just missing the notes feature of Opera and the feature where a new tab opens next to the current one. The add-ons aren't that good. Oh, well, you can't have them all :)

Saikat, you can open the tabs right next to the one like Opera, just go to Firefox Menu --> Tools --> Options --> Tabs --> and choose "New Pages should be opened in a New Tab", so you can have multiple windows in one browser. Did you check the above list of add ons?

Yes, Chris...their is an add-on which opens the fresh tab right next to the current open one as in Opera, but it doesn't work everytime. I was searching for a hack actually. A minor problem which I hope to solve soon.

Saikat, you don't need an add-on for it, you can do the above trick, it works fine. I have like 15 tabs right now :)

No..No Chris...it's not about opening in tabs. Opera opens the new tab right next to the one which is current. Firefox doesn't do that by default. The add-on 'Tabs Open Relative' fixes that in Firefox 3.0, but not always. That was what I was trying to say:)
I am searching for a hack through the guiconfig properties of Firefox.

Yes, but if you click the option "New Pages should be opened in a New Tab" and restart your browser. The new tabs always opens next to the tab you are in. I just have one Firefox Window with 15 tabs. I use "Colorful Tabs" Firefox extension it makes each tab with a different color :)
