Manhunt Over, Man Suspected Of Killing 8 Caught In Illinois

Special Agent Ross Rice told CNN that Nicholas Troy Sheley was caught just east of St. Louis, which was the last place he had been seen wearing blood soaked clothes.

A police bulletin went out from the St. Louis County Police Department saying "He has stated to his ex-wife that he has more killing to do. He is a meth addict and extremely dangerous."

Before Sheley's arrest there was a $25,000 reward for information which would lead to his capture.

It is alleged that the first victim connected to Sheley was a 93 year-old man named Russell Reed, who was found beaten Thursday in the trunk of a car.

Police found four other people, including a child, dead Sunday in a home in Rock Falls, Illinois.

Then on Monday police found the body of 65 year-old Ronald Randall, behind a grocery store in Galesburg, Illinois.

Sheley also is suspected in two slayings in Festus, Missouri, in suburban St. Louis along the Illinois border.

According to an affidavit by Special Agent Susan Hanson, Sheley broke into a home in Sterling -- a mile from Rock Falls -- on June 14. A woman in the home told police the man was Sheley, the document shows.

Sheley then went to Iowa, where he made a phone call to his wife in Sterling on Saturday, and then went to Missouri, according to the affidavit.

A gas station attendant in Galesburg, less than 60 miles from where the call was placed near Davenport, Iowa, told police he saw Sheley at the station, the affidavit stated. The attendant said the man he saw had blood on him.

According to the arrest warrant, Sheley was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and vehicular hijacking.

Sheley's criminal history shows he has a number of convictions for robbery, drugs and weapons charges and has spent three years in prison.

Although this man is suspected of this rash of spree killings and has been arrested, this information is all alleged until he has a trial.

As they just said on the news in the press conference from Illinois, this man is innocent until proven guilty.
