Australian authorities have arrested a 69 year-old man that is suspected of killing his wife and two grandchildren with an axe and leaving his daughter, who is a policewoman, with serious head injuries.
Shelley Walsh is 31 years old and is a Senior Constable in Australia and she showed up at a neighbors house in Cowra, New South Wales, covered in blood and telling her neighbor, Terry Lovett, "Dad's killed Mum and the two kids." She was referring to her father, John Walsh.

Ms Walsh, aged 31, who was off-duty at the time of the attacks, was initially taken by ambulance to Cowra Hospital before being airlifted to Orange Base Hospital where she was in a serious condition.

The bodies of her son and daughter, aged seven and five respectively, and her mother, Mabel, aged in her 60s, remain in the house.

After being contacted, the police immediately started looking for John Walsh and a staff worker from a motel in the town of Hay contacted the authorities letting them know that Walsh had checked into a room there.

The police staked out the motel for about an hour after establishing that the man's car was the one that was wanted in connection with the Cowra killings.

Walsh left the room to go out and buy milk and the local police arrested him without incident.

The neighbors describe the Walsh's as a quiet couple that moved into town approximately 10 years ago and say that the grandparents watched the children for their daughter while she was at work.

The neighbor adds that there was a bit of a change in Walsh after his son committed suicide a few years before and he continues on to say, "The only thing I can imagine there is that I got the impression that he may have felt a bit burdened by looking after his grandkids."

The mayor of the town of Cowra describes the town as "reeling" and the father of the two children has been notified of the deaths of his kids.
