Giant auction site eBay has been ordered to cough up a whopping $63 million after they had been found guilty of selling fake goods
A court in France took the international bidding site to the cleaners after it was discovered that the website had been selling fake items and passing them off as goods from the luxury company
LVMH.
The payment will serve as a payment of damages after the group claimed that the auction site had failed to restrict the fake items which included handbags and perfumes being sold on the site. The court found the auction site guilty of “negligence.”
LMVH and a list of other companies took eBay to court all with cases dealing with the selling of fake goods at the court in Paris.
The court case has come at a bad time for the heads behind eBay as it was only recently when the site had been caught allowing the selling of other fake items passing them off as goods from French leading firm, Hermes. Other names said to be offered as fakes on eBay are goods by Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Givenchy. Perfume brands included Dior, Guerlain, Kenzo and Givenchy.
The auction site have said they will appeal against the decision of this latest court case. The site were found guilty despite being an auction site as they were permitting certain dealers to sell the fake products.
