Ferndale Michigan--A Lebanese teen in the U.S. on a visa shows fake ID claiming to be a federal drug agent after being stopped by the police. He was stopped for running a red light. The police noticed that he had illegal police lights and a siren on his pickup truck.
According to Daily Tribune Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson said,
"When officers stopped him he told them he was working on a case for the Drug Enforcement Agency."
Wilson added the suspect showed the police bogus federal credentials that identified him as a DEA agent and looked almost legitimate.
Rabih El Habhab, 18, of Dearborn Michigan appeared in Ferndale 43rd District Court where he was charged with impersonating a peace officer, a one-year misdemeanor; and a count of unlawfully equipping his vehicle with blue flashing police lights, a 93-day misdemeanor.
El Habhab a Lebanese national here on a visa has been released on personal bond but had to surrender his passport to the court.
The police were on patrol around 11:30 p.m. when they saw El Habhab's Dodge Dakota pickup truck run a red light.
Wilson said,
"The suspect ran a red light. As he ran the light our officer noticed the suspect used a siren and blue flashing lights like we have on our unmarked detectives' cars."
The police said the truck's headlights and taillights had the illegal lights.
When he was stopped El Habhap showed the police the false credentials and said he was a DEA agent, Wilson said. When the police looked at his driver's license, it showed he is 18 years old.
Wilson said,
"That's when the jig was up. "Our officer asked the suspect how he could be a DEA agent when the agency requires that you have to be 21 or older to be an agent. The suspect didn't have an answer for that."
El Habhab was also charged with driving on a suspended license.
His pretrial hearing will be in Ferndale District Court at 11 a.m. July 17.
