article imageIsrael's Stance on Attacking Iran: 'We Could Do It Today'

A former air force general said Israel won’t rule out a military attack on Iran and, if necessary, they are ready to do it today against Iran.
Israel practiced war games recently in preparations for attacks against Iran. More than 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighters participated in the maneuvers, which were carried out over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece during the first week of June, according to the American officials. Today Isaac Ben-Israel of the ruling Kadima party confirmed Israel’s readiness and said Israel is ready to launch attacks against Iran, especially its atomic plants at Natanz.

The former air force general told SPIEGEL that if diplomacy doesn’t work and Iran doesn’t stop pursuing nuclear bombs then Israel will attack Iran:

If necessary, we will use force…We could do it today.

Ben-Israel has some previous experience in this regard; when he was the air force general, he took part in the planning of the 1981 air raid on Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor.

Ben-Israel, however, doesn’t think the attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities will be that easy. He told SPIEGEL that Iran’s nuclear activities could be curbed by other means such as sanctions. Only if those means don’t work then Israel will launch an attack against Iran.

Regarding the air force maneuvers they practiced over Greece, Ben-Israel said it may not be the last, and they may do more such rehearsals in the future.

Recently in October, Israel carried out an air strike on the Al Kibar complex in Syria because they though Syria was secretly developing a nuclear bomb with help from North Korea and Iran. But International Atomic Energy Agency did not find any conclusive evidence at the site about the nuclear weapons in Syria.

If Israel does attack Iran, there will be more chaos and possibly another bigger war in the Middle East. Petroleum prices will surely skyrocket.

Without strategic bombers, Israel can't do it.

But, thats o.k...the States will cave in to the pressure from AIPAC, and drop the bombs for them.

I noticed someone suggest the possibility that Israel and the United States have to get authorization from the U.N. for a war with Iran...not true. Israel, the United States, and Iran are all sovereign nations, and do not HAVE to be long to the United Nations, which is supposed to be a coalition to prevent problems. The inverse seems to be the case for the U.N., which has a horrible track record of peace keeping or negotiating between disputing factions.

The UN is by no means a legislative body with any legal authority over the sovereign rights of any nation.

The good news is that if the rogue state of Israel decides to launch a war of aggression against Iran the UN does have the power to ruin their economy and turn them into the pariah nation they deserve to be. They did it to Israel's buddies the Apartheid government of South Africa and they can do it to Israel.

I really hope that the US listens to the morons that are always braying about the need of the US to get out of the UN. If we did that then the US would no longer have a veto and the numerous resolutions passed by the UN against Israel in the past could be voted on again, and this time the US could not stop the sanctions that Israel so richly deserves.

No one can FORCE a country to do business with Israel and their economy is so fragile that they would collapse if it came down to sanctions.

Yes, the Israelis are well known for acts of terrorism such as bombing of Marine barracks, hi-jacking airplanes, bombing the World Trade Center with fertilizer and diesel bombs, flying planes INTO said buildings...

    Such rogues, those Israelis.

    Such rogues, those Israelis.

They just try to sink US Navy ships and murder their crews, or launch wars of aggression against their neighbors or engage in "collective punishment" of an entire population, which is a war crime. If some other country were to take over Israel and treat the Israelis the exact same way that they treat the rightful owners of the land (the Palestinians) you Cons would be hollering "war crime" at the top of your lungs.

Israel is a hypocrite for thinking that they have a right to nuclear weapons with which to bully their neighbors but those neighbors do not have the right to the same weapons to defend themselves against a nation that has a history of launching unprovoked wars of aggression.

Ridiculous! Give specifics, will you? Giving regard to the underdog is not being anti-Semitic.

You always answer for lens, skep, or is this another case of MPD?

Other than that, I'm not feeding you, either variation, anything where you can twist what I've said.

Been there, done that, not happening again.

I stand by what I said.

No, Mr Garibaldi. I speak and post for myself. Why your need to fall back on psychiatric jargon?

You always answer for lens, skep, or is this another case of MPD?

That's rich. The mutual stroking is such that, at times, I'm forced to blush.
    Let's not get us X-rated.

He is just talking about the policies of Israel that doesn't make him an anti-Semitic. We cannot afford another war and it affects America, he has a right to speak his views.

Good article, except for the last paragraph which isn't really news. It is just the author's opinion. Anyway, from reading the first part of the article, at the end of the day, it looks like one way or another the current government of Iran will not get nukes. That is good news!

I hope Iranian officials stop enriching Uranium. Otherwise, a war seems inevitable.

Tell you what, Cgull, for the time that I've been here I've seen more than enough coming from that one to make that determination based on more than one statement. It's been an ongoing slam from him ever since I've been here, and he's more than earned that impression from me.

He's more than free to state his opinion, and that's fine and dandy, just like I'm equally as free to call it like I see it, and I see it, over months now of seeing it from him, exactly as I called it.

It is what it is, no more, no less.
