They say you can buy almost anything on eBay. One man decided to put that to the test and is auctioning his entire life, including house, job and even his friends. Current bid: $2,201,000 AUD ($2,133,427.90 CAD).
Ian Usher, 44, from Perth, Western Australia, is selling up and heading off to who knows where with only his passport, wallet and the clothes on his back. Everything else he owns is up for
auction on eBay.
The British immigrant credits his ex-wife was the inspiration for the auction. Following their separation he had been nursing a broken heart and needed to move on. "Selling everything was the most logical answer".
"I now live alone in a house that was being built for us to live in together. I still have all of our furniture that we bought together in our previous home. I still have the car we owned. I am still surrounded by all the memorabilia of our years together," his website reads,
"And despite my life being busy and fulfilled, I still miss my wife so much. Everything in my home is a reminder of the wonderful past we shared."
In addition to the material possessions up for auction, Usher is also "selling" his friends, although, it's not as weird as it sounds. The majority of Australia's population is located on the eastern side of the country and so setting up a new life in the west can be a daunting concept, so as part of the deal, Usher's friends are offering the successful bidder a friendly hand in setting up life in Perth.
"Wouldn't it be great to get informed answers to all these silly questions we all take for granted when we live in a city: where's the best pub to go to on a Saturday night, where is the best beach to take the young children for a swim, where is that shop which sells those gorgeous dresses at discounted prices... The list is endless.
And who knows, we might not get along at all but the offer is there..."
A
few hours after his eBay auction went live, Usher received a bid for $650,000 AUD ($630,418.05 CAD) and the bids have steadily increased as the day progresses, surpassing the $2 million mark by the time I write this.
As the auction progresses, I shall endeavor to keep you updated on any developments.
