Visit a bar often? Savor the taste of tequila? Love wearing diamonds? Well, you're in for a surprise because it just turns out that diamonds can be created from your favourite party drink, tequila!
Yes its true. Scientists in Mexico have found a way to create diamonds from nothing else but the alcoholic drink, tequila using a technique that employs the Mexican spirit to produce a diamond film which is employed to protect the surface of equipment operating in harsh conditions.
A standard 80-proof Tequila Blanco is heated until it evaporates. The vapour is then pumped into a special low pressure chamber. The carbon from the drink is then settled on plates in the chamber in a structure that tests confirmed was synthetic diamond. These diamond structures can be used to conduct electricity.
Some kinds of tequila seem naturally to have the right mix of atoms," said team leader Javier Morales. The team suggested that other forms of alcohol could also be used.
This experiment reported by New Scientist Magazine is apparently the first time its been proved that any type of alcohol can be used to create synthetic diamond.
Seems, Mexico will be using alot of their national drink in the years to come!
