A recent poll shows more than half of those living in the United Kingdom believe Christianity will disappear from the country within the next 100 years.
The YouGov poll of 2,000 people was conducted by Aish UK, an Orthodox Jewish organization to observe today's religious trends and possibly predict where they are heading in the near future.
The results of the poll showed an alarming rate of decline in those who practiced Christianity and Judaism. Other religions like Islam and Buddhism show a decline but the rate is far less.
About half of those polled believe Christianity will likely disappear from the country within a century. A third of those who took the poll say Christianity and Judaism would still be practiced 100 years from now.
About four in 10 people said they will remain Christians, but the same number said they would practice no religion at all.
The poll also showed more people (9 per cent) found Buddhism attractive compared to Islam and Judaism.
Aish UK's executive director, Rabbi Naftali Schiff, is clearly worried about these results. He told the Telegraph:
"It clearly demonstrates that religion, including Judaism, is becoming unattractive to the British public…At Aish we know that Judaism provides real meaning and enrichment to one's life. Whilst we have attracted many disinterested Jews back to Jewish identity it is clear there is much work to be done."
There was other research published earlier this year showing that church attendance was declining compared to the number of people who were attending mosques. It is predicted the number of Muslims attending mosques will increase by nearly one million to 1.96 million in 2035 in the U.K.
According to Religious Trends, an analysis of religious practice in Britain, the huge drop off in attendance means the Church of England, Catholicism, and other denominations will be fighting to survive.
Do you think this trend will spread worldwide? Could Atheism become the No. 1 belief system in the world?
