Presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona and other GOP members now have better reason to distance themselves from US President George W. Bush.
Recent poll results have focused on the 2008 US Presidential Elections. So far, it is between presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. Polls have shown that Obama and McCain are in dead heat with each other.
However, consistent poll ratings have been in favor of Obama rather than McCain. The recent Harris Interactive poll revealed that 80 percent of Americans think that the country is going down the wrong path. Less than twenty-five percent of Americans think that US President George W. Bush is doing a good job in handling the country.
In short, Bush’s approval rating has hit a new all-time low of 24 percent. Back in April, Bush’s approval rating was at 26 percent. Instead of Bush’s approval rating going up, it has gone down. So far, it has continued to go down. How it is below 25 percent.
Back in April, 75 percent thought the country was on a bad path. Now, the percentage has increased by five points. However, this has remained consistent with other poll results in that the economy is the most important issue. Iraq continues to play second string to the economy.
Iraq has been the main platform of McCain’s candidacy.
While Bush’s approval rating is on the rocks, at least it is better than VP Dick Cheney’s. Cheney’s approval rating is at 18 percent right now.
Also, at least Bush’s approval rating is better than former US President Jimmy Carter. Back in 1980, Carter’s approval rating was at 22 percent. Still, Bush’s approval rating is still on the rocks.
Now until January of 2009, Bush is still the president. His approval rating could go up. Or, Bush’s approval rating could sink even lower.
