Presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has taken the opportunity to throw another hit at presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona.
In regards to the issue of Iraq, presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has went on the offensive against presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain once again. McCain’s recent remark in regards to Iraq has left him open from attacks from Democrats and other anti-war opponents.
Recently, McCain commended when asked about troop withdrawal that it was not important. He said that the casualty rate is more important. McCain proceeded to talk about US forces stationed in many parts of the world.
Obama has taken the opportunity to get a hit in on McCain in that regard. Again, Obama has attacked McCain on his remark about keeping US troops in Iraq for 100 years. McCain’s notorious “100 Years” remark will probably be an everlasting sting on his presidential run.
Obama addressed the casualty rate. He said that the most important thing is making sure neither the young men nor women are killed. In that respect, Obama said that McCain’s remark was insensitive to the weight that the families of the troops have to deal with while loved ones serve overseas in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.
He would also link the war and the economy together.
[McCain’s] also not thinking about tax payers who are spending $10-12 billion a month in Iraq,” Obama said continuing his offensive.
Several months ago, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz released a study saying that the current cost of Iraq is at least $12 billion a month. Also, the US Congress may hold an inquiry in the near future on Iraq’s oil profits.
While Iraq has money in banks across the world, it has done little to help pay for its own reconstruction.
So far, Iraq has been the main campaign platform for McCain’s campaign. Consistent polls have shown that the economy has trumped Iraq as the important issue amongst most Americans. Iraq has come at a very distant second.
