More than 3,000 drinkers took to the streets on Sunday in Maryborough, Queensland in an attempt to break the world record for the biggest pub crawl.
Australia loves a drink, but while Victoria struggles with issues of binge drinking teens, Queensland set out to break the record for a pub crawl.

Maryborough city councillor and event chairperson Anne Nioa told ABC Radio it was an event for the young and old with the oldest participant being 83.

"We held the first one four years ago and set a world record and then they held one in London and pipped us at the post so every year from then we actually increased our total but we have done a stirling job this year with 3156," Ms Nioa said.

In 2005 Maryborough set the record with 1198 drinkers. The following year they broke their own record with 2237 drinkers, only for the title to be taken by by London, UK, that same year (by only 41 extra drinkers). In 2007, Maryborough reclaimed the title with 2758 drinkers and have now broken that record again with a grand total of 3,156 drinkers.

To be officially credentialled, participants must visit at least 10 pubs on the crawl route in six hours, consuming at least one drink at each one (non-alcoholic drinks are allowed). Participants are given official pub crawl cards which must be stamped at each of the pubs and handed into officials at the end of the night.
