A Florida woman has been killed by an owl, indirectly. After striking the animal with her car, she left her company to check on the owl and was then hit by another car.
Jean Pearce has been slain by another car while she was checking on an injured owlin Keysville, Fla. The 68-year-old struck the owl while it was in the middle of the road, when Ms. Pearce got out of her car to check on the owl and to see if it had expired or needed medical attention she was run over by another drivers vehicle.
Keysville is in Hillsborough County and near Tampa, Fla. Neither the owl, the other drivers car, nor the other driver have been charged with a crime at this point. Also, Animal Control personnel are checking on the condition of the owl, no word yet on whether or not the owl will need further medical aid or rehabilitation for it's presumed injuries.
The demise of this person is extremely unfortunate, and a sad occurrence for her family, but it also underscores the issues of being overly concerned with those animals which also use our roadways.
The object lesson in this case would appear obvious, There are no animals which are worth the life of a human being.
As much joy and wonder as the creatures who surround us are able to bring to us. None of them can play a concerto, or write a book or feel overly concerned about the existence of the human population of the planet. We as humans have a unique position on the planet, it behooves us to keep that in mind.
