Free Sex-Changes Now Part of Cuba's Health Plan

Technically there is a “revolution” brewing in Cuba. It is not the revolution many in the world let alone the United States has been anticipating and expecting. This is the first step towards “changes” made by current Cuban President Raul Castro, brother of former Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Starting now, Cuba is now offering sex-change operations for free. This is available for citizens that qualify for it. It seems expected as Raul’s daughter, Mariela, is in charge of the National Center for Sex Education in Cuba. As a start, if you live in Cuba, you can get a free sex change as long as you qualify.

The resolution has been approved and signed by Jose Ramon Balaguer, Cuba’s Minister of Health. Sex-changes will be implemented as part of the country’s healthcare system. There have been quite a few wanting to undergo the necessary surgery. But, the country’s doctors were not trained to do such a surgery. They had to train with doctors from Europe.

While it has been approved, it is unknown when the operations will start. Free sex-changes are the start of many reforms under the current government of Raul Castro.
