YouTube announces today the addition of a new Channel for journalists both professional and citizen to target an audience hungry for information.
YouTube has swept the nation transforming the way practically every day life is handled. The popular video sharing website has made it possible for people around the world to communicate with one another. Whether it is showing home videos to war coverage, you can find it on YouTube.
Olivia M. of YouTube News & Politics announced today that YouTube has made a new channel meant to target citizen journalists and even professional journalists who use the website as a way of reporting information.
She describes the new Reporter
channel as such:
Reporter channels are just like other YouTube channel types –- such as Comedian, Guru and Musician -- but are specifically intended for citizens and professionals dedicated to informing others about the news and events in their local communities and around the world. This includes but is not limited to:
People who tote around their cameras offering "on-the-scene" coverage of local news and events
Students producing their own weekly newscasts
Active community members who conduct interviews with local leaders
Engaged citizens who love providing commentary and analysis on important issues affecting the world at large
Professional journalists using YouTube as an additional outlet for their work
The new channel will now make it possible for target audiences to be reached more easily.
You can now switch your current user account to be classified under the Reporter channel by clicking "change channel type" and then selecting "reporter." Olivia also reminds citizen journalists to contact YouTube with interesting or breaking stories via e-mail at
CitizenNews@youtube.com.
To all the citizen reporters on YouTube good luck, have fun, and please keep us in the loop!
