Despite years of campaigning against the astonishing rise in gun crime in the North of England, her grandson has been charged with her murder. She had been stabbed to death. He is also charged with a separate incident.
53-year-old
Patricia Regan, had been a shining light within the communities of West Yorkshire in the U.K. She had become famous in her area for campaigning tirelessly against the dangers of gun crime, a subject which has been on the staggering increase in this beautiful and apparently tranquil part of the British Isles.
Yet her life came to a tragic and abrupt end when she was stabbed repeatedly in a violent attack. The mother of six bled to death in the Hyde Park area of Leeds over the weekend. She had been a leading figure in the North of England after her son, Danny, was shot dead six years ago. She had hoped to voice her opinions against those who carry guns to turn them in before someone else had to endure losing a loved one to gun crime.
She was a prolific figure who had met with MP's, government officials, and spoken at rallies trying to bring gun crime awareness and how to possible deal with family related incidences.
She was also the founder of the revolutionary group, Mothers Against Guns, since losing her 25-year-old son who was killed near his home in Merseyside. No one has ever been brought to justice over his murder.
Her grandson, Rakeim Regan, was charged with murder. He will appear at Leeds magistrates later on today. He has also been charged with another stabbing incident at Leeds train station on the same day Mrs Regan was killed.
Candles have been lit around the outside of the house, gifts and flowers have been laid outside Mrs Regan's former home.
