A suburban Missouri town passed laws that refuse to give a housing permit to any unmarried couple and their family. A couple can buy a home only if their children belong to them.
Toi Pruitt and her boyfriend Joe Pulliam bought a home in north Black Jack in St. Louis County, Missouri. Both Toi and Joe are not married and they have three children, from Toi's previous marriage. But the Black Jack officials has refused to give them an occupancy permit.

In 2006, the Black Jack town initially refused a permit to another couple, Fondray Loving, Olivia Shelltrack and their children. The couple then filed a lawsuit against the town.

Since then, the town revised the definition of a family and said unmarried couples can buy a house as long the children are theirs.

In this case, since the children didn’t belong to Joe Pulliam, the town refused to give the couple an occupancy permit.

The city attorney says he’s willing to fight for the ordinance in court. I hope they lose big.
