Authorities were shocked upon discovering a 58-year-old woman holed up on the upper most level of a man's closet. She had been living there for the better part of a year. The mysterious disappearance of food was the clue that led to her discovery.
He couldn't understand why the refrigerator shelves were looking a bit more bare than he remembered the day before. After several months of this went by he decided to take action. The homeowner, who's name was not released, concocted an elaborate scheme involving hidden cameras placed about his home which were then programmed to deliver motion detected video to his cellphone. Once set up, all he had to do is wait to see if he could catch anything on tape.
It was only a matter of hours before his cellphone beeped, alerting him to incoming video. He was able to detect a shadowy figure moving about.
He called police, believing it was a burglar. Upon arrival however police found the doors and windows all securely locked. It was an inside job. Searching the home they looked everywhere but could find nothing. An officer exploring a closet noticed a sliding panel at the top rear shelving and when he opened it he discovered the 58 year old woman nervously curled up on her side.
She told authorities that she had no place to go and had walked into the man's home about a year ago when he had mistakenly left the doors unlocked. She had hidden in the closet when he returned and found the place so comfortable, she had decided to stay.
The homeowner had no clue she was there, other than the missing food. She told police that she would shower when he was away and make use of the other comforts during the day, returning to her closet home upon his return in the evening. She had gone so far as to move a mattress into her tiny abode and was considered to be "neat and clean" by the homeowner once her existence had been discovered.
She has been arrested and charged with trespassing.
