Convicted: 22-Year-Old Gets Jail Time For Asphyxiation Death Of Her Three Babies

By Nikki Weingartner     May 27, 2008 in Crime
For some, it is a one-time momentary lapse of reason. For others, it is due to panic. But for Claudia B., killing all three of her newborn babies from three different pregnancies and all from three different fathers, the reason may never be known.
In what seems like an unreasonable punishment for such a heinous and repeat offense, 22-year-old Claudia B. of Germany was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to nine years in prison for suffocating all three of her newborns babies.
She was a teenager when she killed the first newborn child, a boy, six years ago back in 2002. The other two newborns, both girls, died the same way, one in 2004 and one in 2005.
Their bodies were found last year in her parent's former home. Claudia claimed all were born dead but "post-mortem" showed they died from asphyxiation.
According to the news article, DNA results revealed that each baby had a different father.
The bodies of the babies were found in cartons in the garage of her parents' former house in the town of Thoerey, in the eastern state of Thuringia, in January last year.
According to evidence from the Erfurt state court trial, Claudia B concealed her pregnancies from her parents, the fathers and her two older sisters.
Claudia has since given birth to her fourth child.
A woman in Germany was convicted in 2006 of manslaughter for killing her eight newborn children and received a 15-year prison term.
