On Memorial Day, Obama Acknowledges He Cannot Know What War Is Like

For Memorial Day, Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona were in New Mexico.

While presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he had addressed the issues of Iraq and his opposition of the expansion to the G.I. Bill called the “Post-9/11 Veterans Assistance Act” drawn up and co-sponsored by Democratic Senator Jim Webb of Virginia. Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Obama would be in front of a crowd of mostly war veterans. In the past few days, Obama and McCain have clashed on the G.I. Bill. While Obama supports the G.I. Bill, McCain opposes it. The G.I. Bill could be tied into Iraq, the main platform of McCain’s candidacy. McCain acknowledged that Iraq will either make or break his candidacy. Should Obama become the eventual Democratic nominee, it is highly likely that he and McCain will strongly debate on the G.I. Bill. While in Albuquerque, McCain attacked Obama. McCain said that he will not listen to a lecture from Obama, who has not served the country in uniform. Recently, Obama weighed in on war. Obama acknowledged that he might never end up having the valuable and complete personal insight of those that have seen war through their very eyes. However, Obama would talk about his family that did serve in the military. Obama talked about how his grandfather marched in the army of General Patton. But, Obama said that he is not his grandfather. Thus, Obama admits that he would not know what it is like to be on the frontlines. Obama talked about how his grandmother worked on the assembly line making parts for bombers. But, Obama said that he is not his grandmother. Thus, Obama acknowledged that he would not know or have experienced what it is like to be a family member affected. Regardless of not serving in the military, Obama acknowledged the veterans of the United States military. However, Obama is not yet the Democratic nominee. Senator Hillary Clinton of New York has refused to drop out of the race. Clinton was not in New Mexico. But, Clinton was in San Juan, Puerto Rico attending an evening Memorial Day service.
