article imageAnother right foot washes ashore on Canadian island

By Chris V. Thangham     May 24, 2008 in Crime
Canadian officials and police were left baffled after another mutilated right foot inside a running shoe washed ashore on a beach near Vancouver.
So far, three mutilated right feet have washed ashore in separate incidents on the beaches of two small islands north of Vancouver. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been unable to solve the mystery, unable to tell if they are murder victims or bodies separated from a drowning incident.
All of them were found wearing socks and running shoes and looked to have been in the ocean for a long time.
The police are doing a DNA investigation to find out more, hoping it will help solve the mystery.
Many are speculating the situation is either a result of organized crime, a boating accident, or even body parts from 2004 Asian tsunami victims. But the police are not sure at this point.
Forensic experts say body parts naturally separate after being in the water for a long period of time.
The police speculate the feet may belong to passengers aboard a small plane that crashed in the region several years ago. Their bodies were never recovered.
