An Austrian man hacked his family to pieces, blaming the murder on his financial problems. He wanted to spare them from the scandal by killing them.
In Austria, they are already reeling from the heinous deeds of
Josef Fritzl. But now a 39-year-old man allegedly
hacked his wife, seven-year-old daughter, his parents and father-in-law to death with an axe.
The man turned himself in to the Vienna Police today and confessed to the killings. He apparently killed them at different places. His wife and daughter were murdered at his home, his parents in Linz, 180 km (112 miles) west of Vienna and his father-in-law in nearby Ansfelden.
He told the police that he had severe financial problems, borrowed money from his relatives and lost the cash in business deals. He wanted to spare his family from the financial scandal, so he decided to kill them.
Vienna police spokeswoman Karin Stryceck told BBC News that the killings took place Tuesday evening. They found the man’s wife in the apartment’s bathroom and his daughter in a cupboard.
