Ronald Smith was helping his mother, Mary Smith on her farm yesterday afternoon. The farm is located near Howell in Michigan.
Mary Smith's 52-year-old son, Ronald Smith, was helping his 94-year-old mom on her farm.

According to the police she was riding an all-terrain vehicle, ATV, when she accidentally ran over him. The Livingston County Sheriff's Department said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The farm is located in Cohoctah Township about six mile north of the town of Howell.

Ronald Smith was opening a gate when his mother must have lost control of the ATV, a Kubota RTV 900 utility vehicle that she was riding. The vehicle hit the gate and it caromed off the gate and hit her son.

As Ronald was trapped underneath the vehicle Mary tried to get the vehicle off her son but was unable to do so. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A horrible tragedy for the mom.

Thanks S.D. I cannot even imagine how devastated and guilty she must feel.

That's awful!! I wonder if the son was married and had any kids of his own...

What on earth is a 94 year old doing driving an ATV??

I looked for more information on the story and could not find any.

It certainly seems that the ATV as pictured is too big for someone that age to have been driving.

Thanks for whoever put the picture up.

I put it up, and from the other pictures I saw in addition to this one, the vehicles are very large. I thought this would be nice because it showed the scale of it with a person sitting inside

I agree there is too much controls in there, one has to be careful. She must have tried to help her son out with chores, but sadly it took a wrong turn.

    Hey thanks Julybug. :-)
Since new rules went in a little while ago I haven't posted any pictures. Guess I need to work on that.

It is an excellent picture since it does show the scale of how large the ATV is.

Yes cgull with the size of the ATV and all the controls it looks like something that a 94-year-old should not have been on.

I think they also require a license, but if it is in the farm she might have tried to drive it in the past. Unfortunate incident.
