Woman on vacation in Florida takes a swim and had head on collision with pelican, The woman needed twenty-five stitches.
Debbie Shoemaker was taking her twice yearly vacation near Treasure Island when she decided to go for a swim.
All was normal when suddenly she felt a strong and sharp force hit her face. Shoemaker of Toledo Ohio had been hit by a pelican in what may be the first ever pelican-human collision.
Shoemaker has returned home with 25 stitches in her face; the pelican died.
it is assumed that the bird was diving for fish when its path crossed with Shoemaker's.
