article imageAustralian State Is Banning Piercings For Minors

Posted May 8, 2008 by  momentsintime in Health | 18 comments | 151 views
Within weeks teens under the age of 16 will have to get their Mum or Dad to sign off if they want to get a piercing in New South Wales.
The ban on young teenagers is going in effect because of the health risks that can come from the fashion trend. Nipple and genital piercings for those under 16 are outlawed outright. Parents can give their permission for ear, nose and navel piercings.

"Personally, I can't see why any child under the age of 16 would want to expose their genitalia to a stranger just to fulfil the needs of a fashion or a trend," he said.

Piercings have the risk of hepatitis B or C, toxic shock and blood poisoning.

Operators who choose to break the law will faces heavy fines. If they are found to have carried out an intimate piercing on a minor they will have to pay up to $22,000. Other piercings completed without parental permission will carry a possible $3,000 fine.

I would think that piercing the genitals of a minor could also be construed as sex abuse. No?

    Cyn said freak....cyn said freak.....{pointing finger....ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa ha}. :o)

I think that all parents should have consent to what their minor children are doing to their body! My teens, although they don't like always, have to send me a text image of the likliness of the haircut they are wanting PRIOR to actually getting it and get APPROVAL prior to the cut. If not, they pay for the bowl cut. :o) I've done it and they know it and the teasing is horrific.

I have a piercing (belly) and was 30 when I got it so I'm pretty ok with it. If my son came home with a pierced ear.....without my knowledge - you bet, I'd have that sucker removed and probably pay to have it STITCHED. Different story if he discussed it with me prior.

Parental consent of their minor children? OH YEAAAAAAA. Good stuff moments.

I'll admit - you used it in such a kind and loving way, Cyn. :-)

I had to get my freakish unbiblical piercing done twice....the first one they went through muscle (thanks guys). Plus, I have had TWO more babies since my thirties so no harm, no foul as you cannot wear a bbring during preggers - especially with the 10lbers I pop out. OK last 2 were 9 lbers, but still - my second and third were 10! My 3rd was 24 inches in length!!!!

anyway, now I wear a simple gold loop with an irridescent ball. I can wear it without it getting hung up and it is pretty. BUT - I was of consenting age.

    Just teasing you :).

I don't know how they wear these piercings, don't they get rusted. When I was young, my friend's relative had an haircut and the owner used a rusted one. Soon after he got tetanus and died. It is scary. It is personal lifestyle but I don't know how they can wear this in business or when dealing with customers.
